Ron Johnson, The Abstract Athlete

As an artist and a former athlete, that’s one scenario VCU painting and printmaking professor Ron Johnson wonders about. Art and sports aren’t two things often paired together, but Johnson is trying to change that through an initiative he created with industrial designer Chris Clemmer, a friend and former athlete.
 
Their project, The Abstract Athlete, is meshing the worlds of art and athletics. Through art exhibitions, workshops and other avenues, they’re aiming to show how the two can go hand in hand.
